- APPLE ANNOUNCES EARLY CHILDHOOD CONNECTIONS PACKAGE AT NAEYC '93
-
- ANAHEIM, California--November 11, 1993--Apple USA's Education
- division, demonstrating its commitment to the growing preschool
- segment of the education market, today introduced the Apple Early
- Childhood Connections package before an audience of leading early
- childhood professionals at the National Association for the Education
- of Young Children (NAEYC) conference.
- Built around the powerful Apple Macintosh LC 520 computer system with
- built-in CD-ROM capabilities, the Early Childhood Connections package
- features a library of the leading early childhood development
- software and CD-ROM titles, as well as comprehensive teachers' guides
- and support materials.
- The preschool market, which is defined as a segment within the U.S.
- education system serving the needs of children three to five years-
- of-age, is comprised of approximately 18 million children, almost
- half of which are currently enrolled in preschool or daycare
- programs. Institutions currently serving the preschool market
- include not-for-profit, for-profit, public and private organizations.
- According to Jeff Orloff, manager of national programs marketing for
- Apple USA's Education division, "The Early Childhood Connections
- package expands on Apple's leading K-12 Early Language Connections
- program, which is part of the popular Apple Education Series product
- family. By offering a totally integrated solution -- hardware,
- software, and teacher support materials -- the Early Childhood
- Connections package will allow early childhood educators to easily
- integrate these powerful new learning tools into their existing
- preschool curriculum."
- The cornerstone of the Early Childhood Connections package is the
- Macintosh LC 520, which integrates a built-in AppleCD 300i CD-ROM
- drive, a 14" color monitor, microphone and stereo speakers into one
- complete system. Bundled software titles including interactive CD-
- ROM and audio CDs provide learning readiness solutions in reading,
- mathematics, literature, music appreciation and early childhood
- development. Featured among the 13 bundled titles are Millie's Math
- House from Edmark Corporation; Broderbund's Just Grandma and Me; and
- Raffi's Singable Songs for the Very Young from MCA Records. Also
- included are teacher materials for classroom communication and
- student projects and a resource guide for teachers.
- The Apple Early Childhood Connections package is available for
- purchase immediately to qualified preschool organizations at the
- special education price of $2099, with product shipping scheduled for
- the end of the year. Included in the price are complete onsite
- installation and Apple's one year OnSite Warranty policy. Further
- information about Apple's Preschool products can be obtained by
- calling 1-800-800-APPL.
- In two related announcements, Apple also debuted at NAEYC a new early
- learning video that highlights preschool sites across the country
- where technology is being effectively integrated into the curriculum.
- Apple also announced that all NAEYC members can now qualify for the
- Apple Educator Advantage Program, which allows educators and
- administrators to purchase select Apple products and software at
- special discounts. NAEYC members can obtain further information on
- direct purchase for individual use by calling 1-800-959-2775.
